So here is the first post via my iPhone. I’m sitting here waiting for the elementary spelling bee to start. This is the first year for my youngest. She is so incredibly excited and I have to say that even though I’m stressing about how I’m going to pay my rent (already overdue) and all the tasks I want to complete so my sites can make money – I do feel super relaxed that I’m actually able to be here to watch the bee. I didn’t have to ask anyones permission. I’m not worried about leaving on time so I can get back to the office. That part is exceptionally nice. And when my daughter saw me she ran up and hugged me and she’s so happy.

Life is good.

OK – So I actually have 4 brothers. (6 actually, one is unconfirmed, and one is more like my ’sister’)

Anyway, Carey called me yesterday or so, just to tell me I’m brilliant. No sarc here. He does that and you know what? He’s incredibly genuine. We are so much alike in how we approach the world. He gets me.

Great thing is he’s gone off the edge way more times than me and fallen a lot harder. (I just mean he has great real world experience!) He knew my situation had changed and was shaky. When I called him back today, we chatted about dreams and moving forward.

Then he told me to stop bull shitting him and give it to him straight.  I have never frankly talked out loud about my current situation, especially the negative parts. Not even out loud to myself.

It wasn’t easy. He had to keep reminding me to stop sugar coating and just look at it straight. So I just started stating facts. There is a point when incessant optimism can be an obstacle.  This is such a point.

Once I started saying these facts out loud, I learned what I didn’t know or had realized about where I’m at. That and putting the numbers on paper was new. My situation looks different on paper than it does in my cloudy rendition of it in my brain.

Surely a normal person, responsible parent would know all of these things. Aren’t I an idiot for not knowing? Well, I DO KNOW my situation. But I haven’t faced it head on and spelled out every detail.  This is what he is asking me to do. Look at it without the sun and sugar. And it shocked me how much the same information changed.

What’s so amazing about this you say?

Every time he referenced my situation or plan, he said “we” and “our.” We need to get all the facts so we can create our plan. We’re family and in this together.

He changed my fear to empowerment and gave me actions and accountability.  I so needed this right now.
